Almost 3.5 years of age!

Dear Alex,
You are keeping me so busy I rarely have a moment to catch up on your blog.  As you sleep I am trying to hurry and update so we can look back later and remember all the great and funny things you did at age 3.  You are almost 3.5 now....and growing up so quickly!  You started gymnastics recently and love all your classes...you especially love free time, where you dominate on the trampoline.  You will be starting preschool next month and are very excited.  You think you are taking a school bus to preschool (wishful thinking), even though we keep reminding you we will be driving you there.  If they had one, we would let you take the bus.  You will probably have to wait until elementary school to partake in that experience.

Lately you ask me, "Are you my mommy?" and Jean, "Are you my daddy?" as questions of endearment.  You are so loving and affectionate...to this day, you give us kisses on both cheeks and a big hug, then you say, "I like you and I love you."  It is so adorable.

You have been riding you Cars bike w/ training wheels for a few months now, and today we went on a marathon ride.  It wasn't until we were about 5 houses away from home when you decided it was time to walk your bike.

You are quite the leader and often insist on taking charge.  That comes in handy w/ things like cleaning your room, getting ready for the day, eating meals, etc.  It doesn't really come in handy when we need you to take our instruction, but we're working on it.

You love to learn...love to read books (and then reenact them), run in the backyard and at parks, and are unbelievably active.  You can go full speed for the entire day w/o a nap and then sleep 12-14 hrs. at one stretch.

You tell us you have two dogs, Molly our sole surviving golden retriever (age 13) and Rudy, our neighbor Jim and Kathy's maltese who we dogsit regularly.  You tell us you are going to start driving when you are 5 (we hope you're not serious).

You are very social and love getting together w/ your friends.  Torin seems to be your best buddy, and you two play very well together.  We believe you and Torin (both music lovers) will be starting a rock band together someday.

You have the best sense of humor and see the fun in everything.  You say things in different tones and voices to try to get the funniest reactions.

You have the best memory!  You can recall experiences down to the tiniest detail, which sometimes baffles us since you are such a young kid!  When you wake up in the morning, you often recite everything about the day before, as if you'd been thinking about those things all night.  When you lie down to go to sleep, I ask you what you want to dream about...you always say "bunnies and dolphins."  When you awaken, I ask what you dreamt about, you smile and say, "bunnies and dolphins."

Whenever you bump your knee of foot or head or other body part like most 3 year olds do, you say (in a very humorous tone), "That didn't feel very good."

You are our greatest helper....whatever project we have in the works, you want to be a key player and contribute as much as we'll let you.

I don't think we can keep up w/ your fast pace of growth, but I will try to sneak moments just to jot down a few of your wonderful attributes! You are so much fun, sweet Alex, and we just love every day with you.

3 years old, keeping us busy

Boy has it been a long time since I posted on this blog.  I can't believe how time flies once you have a kid.  The past 3 years have zoomed by like weeks and I can hardly keep up with all of the changes Alex has gone through.  Jean and I agree Alex is at the most fun age thus far.  He is bright, witty, has an amazing memory, is so unbelievably funny, very friendly, a happy kid all the time (okay, there are tired moments here and there), and just plain fun to be around.

Next week Alex will begin his summer classes, including swimming and tap/jazz/hula dance.  As far as swimming, he was born into the water and has spent much of his early life in jacuzzis and heated pools (with instruction by Mom and Dad)...now he will be able to attend official lessons and hopefully increase his skills quite a bit.  As for the tap/jazz/hula dance class, Alex loves all types of dancing so that's a no-brainer.

Otherwise Alex spends his time playing with friends, going to library story hour, daily park trips, lots of bike rides, and other types of fun, fun, fun.  He also loves helping Daddy mow the lawn and is Mommy's helper chef.  School is right around the corner!
